To fully understand our mission, you must first understand flowstone; a cave formation made when water runs over the walls and floors of caves, leaving mineral deposits that create a beautiful layer of rock that appears to flow.
We feel this is a perfect metaphor for how we pass along our knowledge to future generations. Through small, consistent actions we can create something beautiful, strong and enduring for the future.
We believe that every small bit of knowledge planted in children is how our community grows and endures with strength for the future.
Our mission is to create a more just and beautiful world by empowering youth, ages 12 - 17, through regional travel and experiences that open their minds to the myriad of ways people can genuinely connect with the earth, themselves and one another within and outside of their communities.
We believe this is a mission worth pursuing as our planet and our society seems to be at a critical turning point. With unprecedented global climate and humanitarian crises, there is no time like the present to provide our youth the experiences, knowledge and relationships that will help turn them into conscientious leaders as adults.
Flowstone will provide youth with travel experiences that will highlight different cultures, customs and social spheres within the same state to both rural and urban students - who often lack exposure to true nature experiences and the arts based on their demographic.
Research shows that travel, even regional, improves students’ confidence, grades, relationships, and ultimately their understanding of the world. And it’s long been known that both the arts and nature are the jewels of any community - and that exposure to both can boost brain power, ease depression and anxiety (which many youth suffer from now) and overall health.
By giving students a richer and more in-depth experience than can be provided in school, we aim to combat the oppressive systems in place that make it hard for a country kid to understand the magic of a city and harder still for a city kid to feel the wisdom that nature has to offer. By broadening the experience and world view of just a dozen students a year, we believe we can change the world.
Held in the spectacular San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado, Camp Glory View will be an experience like none other. With small groups of kids of varying ages, we hope to create a road trip and nature experience for Denver Metro students that they will never forget. This program is 7 days, 6 nights; including travel time.
Rural Students from Southwest Colorado will take the same road trip in the opposite direction! This small group will spend days exploring the vast communities of artists, activists and educators that the city has to offer. This program is 7 days, 6 nights; including travel time.
